Whether you want to understand how long it will take for the controllers to charge or you want to know what kind of devices the USB ports on PS5 can power, knowing PS5 USB power output can come in handy.
Basically, PS5 has four USB ports. Three of these are your typical Type A ports and one is a Type C port.
In addition to that, they have the following speed standards:
- 1 x USB Type-C (SuperSpeed) port on the front (10 Gbps)
- 1 x USB Type-A (Hi-Speed) port on the front (0.48 Gbps)
- 2 x USB Type-A (SuperSpeed) ports on the rear (10 Gbps)
In other words, three of them conform to USB 3.2 Gen 2 standard (10 Gbps) whereas one of them conforms to the USB 2.0 standard (0.48 Gbps).
However, when it comes to delivering power, you will come to realize that they are all the same at about 11.5W maximum.

What is the PS5 USB Power Output?
PS5 does not officially state how much power the USB ports can carry.
From the devices that we can use on the PS5, we can deduce a rudimentary RANGE of the output power.
For instance, we know that PS5 can charge the DualSense controller which is rated 1t 1.5A and 5V so 7.5 Watts of power.
However, one can get a definitive answer by using a power meter.
The power meter above is inserted into the USB Type C port. We can see that it has an output voltage and amperes of 5.04V and 2.280A respectively.
This puts the wattage of the USB Type C Port at 11.5W.
Unfortunately, this does not tell us the wattage of the rest of the USB Type-A ports.
Deducing the Wattage from How Long Controllers Take To Charge
While we have a definitive answer for the wattage of USB Type C port, we can tell the wattage of the rest of the ports by checking how long it takes for the ports to charge them.
According to one user, it takes both the Type C and the Type A port on PS5 about 2 hours to charge both controllers.
We can therefore conclude that both the Type C and the Type A ports on PS5 have the same power output of 11.5 Watts maximum.
USB C Ports are NOT PD
Gamers often make the mistake of thinking that the USB C port on PS5 can deliver far higher power as compared to the Type A ports. They also assume that the USB C port has the Power Delivery (PD) mode enabled, however, that is hardly the case.
USB C PD is a special port that delivers more than 200W of power. It is often found on chargers, laptops, and certain monitors.
However, the USB C Port on PS5 does NOT correspond to the PD standards.
TL;DR
While there is no official answer from PS5. According to the research above, we can conclude that PS5 USB Power Output is about 11.5W for ALL ports.
